According to ICAM’s recommendations, the initial phase of any project that ensures the welfare of stray animals is to quantify their amount. The exact amount will allow us to properly assess the situation and develop a strategy to find the most optimal humane solution, consider threats, and predict results. Based on the WSPA methodology, unique software for mobile devices was developed, which greatly simplifies the amount of work for volunteers and coordinators. With the mobile app, volunteers will be able to take a picture of stray animals with a GPS tag for their location, and add a visual description.

Recommendations for counting stray dogs

  Animal counting starts at – 7:00

  We do animal counting by using the mobile application which is available in “STRAYS ID” App Store or “STRAYS ID” Play Market:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is fully charged and has the access to the Internet. Download the App; You will receive login and password as soon as the Moderator approves Your data. Please log in to the App.
  2. When you notice the stray animal, press the “Add the animal” button, take a picture of it with the phone camera by pressing on the image icon; enlarge the image and place the image at center; save it. It is very important not to forget to turn GPS on, if everything is correct you will see the GPS coordinates below the picture. You should match as much as possible about the animal - Important parameters: sex, sterilization, ownership, pregnancy and the general body condition of the animal; other parameters - are optional.
  3. Press the button “Register”. The registration of animal in the system may lasts for 5-60 seconds and it depends on the quality of your Internet connection.The animal is registered only ones. Once the data is registered you can’t edit it.
  4. Don't worry if the Internet connection suddenly disappeared, all data is stored in the App and you will be able to upload them when the net appears.

  The animal counting should last for 2 hours.

  You shoud come across your sector very carefully. If the animal is in a closed or hard to reach area don't go near it.

  A dog, outside your sector or on the private property (in the private yard, factory, or other private enterprise) - should not be registered and the data of such an animal will be deleted. The dog which has come to your sector or is outside of it’s private yard or enterprise - has to be registered. The dog which is outside the private yard/enterprise, near the house or looks like that it is lost or walks without supervision - is registered as the owned dog (domestic bottom).

  We ask you not to put yourself in danger. We advise you not to go in the dense wood, not to touch the dogs and not to run after them. Remember that the stray animals can be afraid of people, because in the cities they are chased to be picked up. That's why try to be as cautious as possible.
